Workplace Apprenticeship Program
The Programme d'apprentissage en milieu de travail (Workplace
Apprenticeship Programme) is based on acquiring and recognising skills and
leads to obtaining a professional Certificate of Qualification given
by Emploi-Québec and recorded in a government register. It is an
on-the-job training process that allows the paid apprentice to master the
occupation under the supervision of an experienced worker, the journeyman,
who passes on his or her knowledge and experience in a real work
environment.
Employers upgrade the skills of their employees and may be eligible for
a tax credit that funds a portion of the training expenses.
This workplace apprenticeship approach is based on occupational
standards, i.e., requirements defined by the relevant employment sector.
The programm was developed by Emploi-Québec with partners in the labour
market and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and is now
offered in the following occupations.
Other occupations will be added according to the needs expressed by the
different sectors of activity.
A plan that works!
All participants benefit from the Qualification Plan.
- The apprentice benefits for the "know-how" of an
experienced person. Once the apprenticeship is finished the
qualifications are recognised by a professional qualification
certificate given by Emploi-Québec.
- The journeyman who supervises an apprentice for a year can also get
a professional qualification certificate.
An employer can train his personnel according to the specific needs of
the company. Moreover, he can receive a tax credit that will allow him to
finance a portion of the training expenses incurred through his
participation in the Qualification Plan.
