Québec pluriel

This mentoring program was created in 2004 in response to the finding that Québeckers from several cultural community or visible minority groups have much higher dropout, low-education and unemployment rates than the Québec population as a whole.

The program is offered in six areas: Gatineau, Laval, Longueuil, Montréal, Québec and Sherbrooke.

Objectives

Québec pluriel is designed to help you find work.

If you are eligible, you could:

• be supported by a mentor;
• receive career counselling;
• take part in workshops on job hunting, socio-professional training and familiarization with the Québec reality.

Who is eligible for Québec pluriel?

To be eligible for the Québec pluriel program, you must:

• be between the ages of 16 and 24 and belong to a visible minority;
  or
• be between the ages of 16 and 35, be a member of a cultural community and have lived in Québec for less than five years.

You must also:

• be a Canadian citizen;
  or
• have permanent residency status;
  or
• have received a letter of acceptance from the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

Participation

You will participate in Québec pluriel for 12 weeks or more.

Québec pluriel offers the possibility of being supported by a mentor, who will meet with or call you about once a week to share:

• his/her knowledge of the Québec labour market and society;
• his/her career path;
• his/her love of a trade or occupation. 

Mentoring

Who can become a mentor?

Adults of any age and origin who have been in the Québec labour market for at least five years.

Role:

The mentor’s job is to help you:

• think about how you could join the labour market;
• develop an enriching relationship centred around seeking, finding and keeping a job.

Mentoring gives preference to face-to-face meetings.
